Day 19 of 40 days of devotion

Written by Caroline King

We cannot earn love we cannot learn love. We love because He first loved us 1 john 4 v 19

When we fall in love, scientists tell us it is a chemical reaction in the brain that releases a surge of hormones that causes us to “feel in love “. So be it. Anyone who falls in love knows that it is far more than that!

Being in love is a process. We build a relationship by spending time together, talking, sharing our past, present and future hopes and dreams. It is intimate and exclusive.
Nearly 50 years ago my journey of devotion to the one who loves me, gave His life for me, walks with me and reveals His love to me, began. He has led me through joys and sorrows, hope and despair. He is my God and my friend, my Lord and my saviour.

So last Spring, I woke in the middle of the night and knew God was telling me to stop working. In the morning I told my husband, who quite calmly accepted His decision. I told Simon, who counselled me not to make any commitments for 6 months. I knew this wasn’t retirement but a new phase in my life!

It is exciting to see how God is working in my life and a privilege to co-operate in even a tiny part of His great plan.

As advised I made no decisions for 6 months and had a lovely summer. I spent it gardening, talking to God, visiting family and friends, building relationships, praying, going to meetings, reading the bible, hearing God speak, worshiping and resting in Him.

In September, I happened to be in JCC on a Friday night when Glo was running. Ash Kauffman told me that they needed more leaders and I agreed to help out for one week ! While I was there God said “this is where the fruit is”. I have of course joined the team and been going every week since.

I love being part of this Youth work, the team is so hard working and we have a lot of fun with the young people. There are a lot of pressures on our teenagers and they need all our prayers, love and support. Above all they need to know the God who loves them and gave His only son for them. John 3v16

So what am I doing in this 40 days of devotion?

I plan to speak about Jesus to at least one person who doesn’t yet know Him each week. I long to see more people saved and added to the church. I am praying every day for opportunities and I have downloaded a simple Gospel message and prayer onto my phone.

Jesus says “wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest time. The harvesters are paid good wages and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life.” John 4 v 35-36.
