Dan & Hannah Baptist

Lead Elder

Dan moved to East Grinstead in 2010 to study theology and serve JCC. Having completed his three years studying in the Church he then returned to work on a building site as Site Assistant for a creative team based in Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. In 2016, Dan returned to work at JCC, becoming Associate Pastor. In 2018/2019 Dan took over the Lead Elder/Pastor role from Simon Elliott, to head up the team and church. Dan married Hannah in 2014 and they have three young children. He enjoys snowboarding in the Alps or surfing at the coast (if time and money allows!) Dan is also a member of the EG rugby team and is enjoying using his building knowledge to develop his own house.

Hannah is a trustee and has been on staff at JCC since February 2016 as Head of Administration and Logistics for the church and community centre. Previously Hannah worked as a lawyer and has 10 years’ experience in private client law. She grew up in East Grinstead, married Dan in 2014 and is mum to their two young children. Dan and Hannah enjoy travelling together and building work on their home.

Sam & Grace Kusu Orkar

Elder

Sam and Grace Orkar moved to East Grinstead in 2010 and enjoyed fellowship at JCC prior to Sam joining the eldership team in 2015. Sam is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the world-renowned Queen Victoria Hospital and McIndoe Surgical Centre. He enjoys watching football and athletics, and listening to Gospel and Jazz music. Grace works part-time for the NHS as a Clinical Pharmacist and also manages their private business. She enjoys singing, reading, playing badminton and being a homemaker. They have four children. Whenever possible, Sam and Grace enjoy travelling together and have a real passion for prayer.

Matt and Lizzy Hoyes

Elder

Matt Hoyes is from Grantham and moved to East Grinstead in 2004. He started serving on our youth team in 2005, was appointed JCC’s 0-18’s Pastor in 2016, became an elder in 2019, and has been our Associate Pastor since September 2022. Matt has a real passion to see evangelism thrive throughout the local church. His working background is in aviation and care work, and he is a huge fan of almost any collision and contact sport. Matt met Lizzy on their Impact year volunteering at JCC in 2009. She moved to East Grinstead and they married in 2011. Lizzy is a qualified Dental Nurse and has a background working with special needs children. She loves all thing bake off related. They have two sons and love adventuring with them…especially if mud is involved!

Kev and Kris Defriend

Elder

Kev originally comes from Essex and retired from being a GP in the NHS in Caterham in March 2022. He married his wife Kris in 1994 having met at medical school and they have 3 children. He has been a member of the Church since 2012 and since that time has served as a leader in our Blaze children’s team. He is passionate to see the next generation receive the gift of salvation and live life to the full as followers of Jesus.

He took up the role of wellbeing pastor in May 2022 and has a desire to see people take hold of God’s purpose for wellbeing in their lives and to see those involved in Church leadership flourish. He was appointed an elder in October 2022.

Kris continues to work in the NHS but also pursues new avenues in how she can use this experience to help support parents and young people have improved mental health. She enjoys reading, art and writing.

They enjoy travelling together, skiing and hosting family gatherings.

Mark Harvey

Chair of Trustees

Mark became a trustee in 2019. He has been Chair of trustees for East Grinstead Foodbank. Mark is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants and worked in the investment and insurance world before setting up his own financial services company. Mark his married to Jenny, they have three sons and seven grandchildren. Mark is passionate about the local church, he also likes watching football (Arsenal!) when he can.

Cris Payne

Trustee

Cris is an ex-teacher and a key trustee. She heads up Jubilee’s Safeguarding team and actively supports the team in the office in any way she can. She is also Safeguarding Co-ordinator for Newground and heads up Safeguarding at the Newground Ashburnham conferences. She and her husband Martin were married in the church and have been members for over 30 years. Martin leads one of our welcome teams and advises on the fabric of the building. Since their three children have grown and left home, they have fully exploited their freedom to travel!

Hannah Baptist

Head of Admin & Logistics / Trustee

Hannah is a Trustee and has been on staff at JCC since February 2016 as the Head of Administration and Logistics for the church and community centre. Previously Hannah worked in a law firm as a lawyer and has 10 years’ experience in private client law. Hannah is married to Dan and they have three small children. They enjoy travelling together, and building work on their project home.

Mark Berry

Trustee

As well as being Chair of Trustees at Jubilee Mark has a number of roles and has been involved in church leadership for many years. He and his wife Mandy lead a community group and Mandy is part of Jubilee’s welcome team on a Sunday. Mark is a head of service for Epsom and Ewell Borough Council and is passionate about sustainable development. Mandy is an administrator in a local community centre providing day care for the elderly. They have two daughters, Emma and Rosanna, who have now both graduated from university and live elsewhere.

Nate Down

Trustee

Nate joined as a trustee in 2019. He moved to East Grinstead in 2012 after completing a Business Management degree at the University of Brighton. Nate now works as a Portfolio Manager in London working with business change projects and programmes to develop strategies that enable cohesive delivery. He is married to Natalie and together they enjoy cooking, attending cooking classes, mixing cocktails and seeking the best coffee shops. Nate serves on the communications team, and on the Sunday welcome team with Natalie.

Wellbeing Pastor / Elder

He enjoys many sports, watching more than participating nowadays, and has been coaching football for 10 years.

Holly
Gunter

Building Manager

Holly manages the Jubilee Community Centre, dealing with the day to day running of the building, enabling the safe and efficient running of operations. Meeting and contacting hirers, Holly ensures the centre is a friendly, welcoming environment for our community. Holly is a member of JCC and serves both on the welcome team and helping lead a community group. She is married to Sam.

Norris

0-18s Pastor

Will moved to East Grinstead in 2021 with his wife, Alex, 3 months prior to seeing the family grow and joyfully welcoming their daughter, Tilly, into the world.  Prior to becoming the 0-18s Pastor, Will spent over 8 years working in real estate with no knowledge that God would eventually use this customer facing experience in a way that so directly impacts the church. Will’s heart is to see the young people of JCC, and the wider community fall deeper in love with Jesus, “that our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones” (Psalm 144:12). Outside of work, Will values his time with his family (the more mess, the more fun with some climbing thrown in!), he’s an avid snowboarder and a retired Liverpool fan.

Ali
Morphew

Finance Officer

Alison grew up in the family of JCC and has served on various teams over the years, including worship, youth and social action. Professionally she has been a qualified bookkeeper since 2011, working with charities and small businesses, and joined the JCC staff team in October 2021.  She makes sure that all the financial transactions of the church and centre are accurately recorded and helps maintain the finance processes and systems. Outside of JCC, Alison is a trustee for a local counselling charity and is passionate that people of all abilities can access the local church.

Receptionist / Administrator

Sue is a retired teacher who works part time at JCC as a Receptionist/Administrator. She is married to Dave, a retired Commercial Airline Pilot. They are kept active and busy with their two children and four grandchildren. Sue has been a member of JCC for 20 years. She leads a community group, has a pastoral heart and serves on the prayer response team. Sue likes to travel the countryside with Dave in their recently acquired caravan.

Communications Administrator

Natalie Down looks after small groups, comms admin and pastoral needs. She’s currently on maternity leave until September 2022.

Jones

0-18's Administrator and Coordinator

G has been a member of JCC since 2010 and has been on staff at JCC since January 2022 working as the Coordinator and Administrator for our children and youth work. She works closely Will, 0-18s pastor, to ensure our children and youth work runs smoothly and efficiently. G oversees Little Stars which is our Parent and toddler group on a Monday and is also lead recruiter at JCC, processing DBS’ to ensure all of our staff and volunteers are up to date with their checks.

Doug
Hedges

Receptionist / Administrator

Doug has been a member of JCC for 15 years. He works two days a week at JCC covering reception and administration duties. Doug enjoys the opportunity this gives to spend time with other Christians and grow in his relationship with God. He also spends time developing his private maths tutoring business and likes reading, walking and skiing. Doug is married to Helena and they have two children.

Fiona
Straszynski

CAP Debt Centre Manager

Fiona is a fully trained CAP debt and money coach and manages the East Grinstead CAP Debt Centre here at Jubilee Community Church. Christians Against Poverty (CAP) provides free debt counselling and holistic support through community-based appointments to lift people out of debt and poverty. Fiona is also a weekly volunteer at Foodbank and an advocate for ACTS435. Fiona has two grown up daughters, is a member of JCC and serves on the Welcome team.
