This is the first time I have written a blog of any sort especially telling people what I intended to do and have been doing for 40 days.

I decided, having prayed for our neighbours for some time with minimal results that I needed to change tack in order to pray more earnestly and hopefully more effectively for our neighbours (approx. 30).  Also, I needed to be persistent in prayer as Jesus says in Luke 11: 5-10.  To do this I felt that I should pray in tongues as I prayed for them.

So, when I am unsure what to pray, I pray in tongues and in the process I am aware that I am speaking mysteries to God (1 Cor 14:2).  In 1 Cor 14 Paul encourages us to seek to prophesy or to interpret the tongue but if my understanding of that scripture is correct, then Paul’s injunction is in the context of speaking in church meetings, not one’s own prayer time.

What has been the outcome for me?  I have found that praying for my neighbours became more intense and my faith has been built up as 1 Cor 14:4a says.  I have also found that I have had more frequent contact with neighbours and I believe that these will translate into something even more substantial.
