Day 5 of 40 days of devotion

Written by Dan Baptist

A lady once claimed to be a friend of the Queen. She often talked of her close relationship with her majesty, even mentioning Elizabeth by first name. Although her tales of evening cocktails and afternoon brunches on the lawn were vivid enough to fool you at first, her stories unravelled over time until the nature of this woman’s relationship with the Queen of England was clear. Her notions of intimacy with our Monarch were nothing more than mere delusions.

Devotion is where sky high claims of intimacy are grounded in daily reality. The word ‘Devotion’ encapsulates both enthusiastic claims and a lifestyle of faithfulness.

It is true that there’ll be times when I find it hard to maintain my devotion to Jesus, when the grind of daily life leaves me feeling as though I myself am living a delusion.

However, as I lift my head and my hands in response to my Fathers devotion to me, I know that I am a legitimate child of my heavenly Dad. As I hear the delighted song of scripture, calling me a Son, adopted into His family, I feel my soul respond in Love. “You are my heavenly Father, I know the Lord of Lords, I am Known by Jesus” and I commit myself once again to the one who is always devoted to me.

Hebrews 13:15-16
Let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

Today let us re-align our lives to the greatest reality – God is devoted to us. As this knowledge permeates our lives we’ll find our heart rise until others will say “they are devoted”.
