Simon and Gwen moved to East Grinstead to lead the church in 2002. Simon is the senior Pastor at Jubilee Community Church and does the majority of teaching at our Sunday services. He is responsible for leading the Eldership team and the staff at Jubilee. He carries overall strategic responsibility for both the church and the centre. In his spare time he loves playing Rugby for East Grinstead and in the summer he hacks his way around some of the local golf courses. Gwen is a key worship leader at Jubilee and helps shape our music for Sundays and special events. She teaches curriculum music and singing and piano in a number of local schools and also acts and performs. Together they have 2 children, Toby and Beth. Toby works locally and Beth is currently studying for a BA in action at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.
Dave and Ann have enjoyed being part of Jubilee for more than 30 years. Dave became an Elder in 1997 and takes primary responsibility for Jubilee’s work amongst the poor through our Jubilee Initiative. Dave works full time for Lloyds Banking Group where he leads the bank’s education programmes and has the opportunity to work across the UK with this and other community based initiatives. Ann is a qualified teacher with a real heart for disaffected teenagers, and works with Dave in developing the impact and scope of the jubilee initiative. Dave and Ann have four children, and two grandchildren, spread across East Grinstead, Kingston, Leeds and St Louis in the USA. When time allows both Dave and Ann sing with a local choir and Dave is also a Master Scuba Diver!
Sam Kusu Orkar
Sam and Grace moved to East Grinstead in 2010 and have enjoyed fellowship with JCC. Sam joined the eldership team in March 2015. He is also a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the world renowned Queen Victoria Hospital, and the McIndoe Surgical Centre. Sam enjoys watching football and athletics and listening to Gospel and Jazz music. Grace works for the NHS as a Clinical Pharmacist. She enjoys singing, reading, playing badminton and being a homemaker. She is also on the leadership team of Oasis, JCC’s daytime study group for women. Sam and Grace enjoy travelling together when they can. They have four amazing children, Ter-Er, Doobee, Wuese and Bemna.
Pete became an elder in March 2015 and oversees the worship team at Jubilee. He is born and bred in East Grinstead and works full time in Crawley for a flight planning company, and enjoys travelling when the opportunity arises. Pete loves playing guitar, watching football, jumping on the trampoline and reading revival stories. Abi moved to East Grinstead from Manchester in 2001 to do an internship for a year with the church. She leads the 0-4’s work at Jubilee and is also on the leadership team for Oasis, a women’s daytime bible study group. Abi loves all things Northern, baking, sitting in coffee shops and spending time with people. More importantly than all of this, Pete and Abi are parents to three gorgeous, strong willed and hilarious girls, Talitha, Mischa and Aoife.
Chair of Trustees
As well as being Chair of Trustees at Jubilee Mark has a number of roles and has been involved in church leadership for many years. He and his wife Mandy lead a community group and Mandy is part of Jubilee’s welcome team on a Sunday. Mark is a head of service for Epsom and Ewell Borough Council and is passionate about sustainable development. Mandy is an administrator in a local community centre providing day care for the elderly. They have two daughters, Emma and Rosanna, who have now both graduated from university and live elsewhere.
Cris is an ex-teacher and a key trustee. She heads up Jubilee’s Safeguarding team and actively supports the team in the office in any way she can. She is also Safeguarding Co-ordinator for Newground and heads up Safeguarding at the Newground Ashburnham conferences. She and her husband Martin were married in the church and have been members for over 30 years. Martin leads one of our welcome teams and advises on the fabric of the building. Since their three children have grown and left home, they have fully exploited their freedom to travel!
Sarah is a trustee at JCC with a particular interest in Inclusion and is also a governor of 2 local primary schools. She works as an administrator now and previously had a career as an Occupational Therapist. Sarah has a busy family life with her 3 girls and she brings all this wisdom and experience to the trustee team. Together with the other trustees, she supports Jubilee by helping us navigate our way through the legalities and joys of being a church and a charity that seeks to serve the local community.
Chris has worked for over 20 years in church and charity insurance bringing a wealth of experience in the areas of insurance, health & safety and risk management. He took three years out to study Theology & Worship at London School of Theology. Chris’s passion is worship and he regularly leads one of our worship bands. He is a dad to two young children, supporting his wife Kate as they seek to serve through JCC in the local community.
Hannah is a Trustee and has been on staff at JCC since February 2016 as the Head of Administration and Logistics for the church and community centre. Previously Hannah worked in a law firm as a lawyer and has 10 years’ experience in private client law. Hannah is married to Dan, and they enjoy travelling together, and building work on their project home. Hannah leads a community group and a cluster, oversees the welcome teams, as well as being involved in various other areas of church life.
Claire is a vital cog in the Jubilee machine. She has been on the staff for over 20 years. Initially she provided all our administrative support, however, her role has developed over recent years. Claire has become the key leader in our work with the over 65’s as well as providing pastoral support to the eldership team. She is often the first face you will see if you visit JCC in the week and together with her husband Chris provides the behind the scenes stability that churches are built on.
Dan moved to East Grinstead in Sept 2010 to study Theology and serve JCC. Having completed his 3 years studying in the Church he then returned to the building site as Site Assistant for a creative team based in Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. In 2016 Dan returned to work at the Church, leaving behind the tools to become JCC’s Associate Pastor. Dan has been married to Hannah Baptist since 2014. When time and finances allow, you’ll find him heading to the Alps or down to the coast to enjoy snowboarding or surfing. Dan is also a member of the EG rugby team and is enjoying using his building knowledge to develop his own house.
Matt started as the 0-18’s Pastor in July 2016 after 11 years as a volunteer Youth Leader and joins us with a background in aviation and care work. Matt is married to Lizzy and is a very proud dad to their sons Caleb and Joshua. He loves meat and pretty much any collision or contact sport. Matt has passion and faith to see our 0-18’s at JCC become radical and sold out disciples of Jesus, confident, secure and empowered in God’s love and calling to bring the kingdom of heaven wherever they go.
After completing a degree in design at Leeds University Kat spent a year as an intern at Jubilee. She then went on to work in a number of local schools both primary and secondary providing support to children who were struggling in the classroom environment. In September 2013 Kat became our 0-18s coordinator. Working 3 ½ days a week Kat encourages, supports and facilitates the various volunteer leaders and teams that serve our 0-18s at Jubilee. In her non work time Kat is developing her own creative design business.
Holly manages the Jubilee Community Centre, dealing with the day to day running of the building and making sure things are running safely and efficiently. She also meets and makes contact with hirers making sure the Jubilee Community Centre is a friendly, welcoming environment for our community. Holly is a member of JCC and serves on the Welcome and Youth teams.
Doug works part time as a receptionist/administrator at JCC. He also works as a teacher at Sackville school in East Grinstead. He is married to Helena and has two children, Joe and Esme. His hobbies include cooking, reading and the occasional visit to the gym. He has been a member of JCC for about 12 years and enjoys being part of the church family.
Sue is a retired teacher who works part time as a Receptionist/Administrator. She is married to Dave, a retired Commercial Airline Pilot. They have two children and four grandchildren under the age of 4, which keep them extremely active and extremely busy! Sue has been a member of JCC for 15 years and serves on the Welcome Team. In her spare time Sue likes to travel the countryside with Dave in their recently acquired caravan with their two boisterous boxer dogs.
Jonathan is responsible for the day to day set up of bookings and keeping the centre in a presentable condition. With a background from the building industry and keen interest in woodwork, he is also responsible for many of the repairs and improvements needed on a day to day basis. Having been brought up in a christian family he can trace his own personal relationship to God back to the age of about 11, when faith in God’s forgiveness, became a reality, as opposed to trying to live a good life on his own. Jonathan is also involved in practical aspects of worship on Sundays and has helped lead a community group in the week.
