Welcome back to the JCC worship blog!

At JCC we are always looking at ways we can keep the way we worship on a Sunday fresh, and part of this is introducing and learning new worship songs! At the moment there are many new worship songs being written around the world, by a host of highly gifted men and women of God, including some from within our own New Ground group of churches.

Below I’ve included a list of some of the songs we’ve begun singing recently in church, along with a few we may look to introduce on a Sunday morning in the near future!

  • Glorious Day – Passion, Kristian Stanifill
  • You Are Good – Israel Houghton
  • Alive with Worship – Newday, Sam Cox
  • We Are The Free – Matt Redman
  • Fall Afresh – Kari Jobe
  • Fall – The Belonging Co, Andrew Holt, Meredith Andrews
  • Grace to Grace – Hillsong Worship
  • Praise the Lord O My Soul – Worship Central
  • The Creed – Soul Survivor
  • Now Why This Fear – Sovereign Grace Music, SojournMusic
  • Spirit Move – Kalley Heiligenthal, Bethel Music

These songs are also available as a Spotify Playlist using the link below!

Song Focus – Glorious Day

Toby

I love the celebration that stirs in my heart when we use this song in worship! It’s a brilliant song for stirring us up in corporate worship, and encouraging us to remind ourselves of the total transformation we went through when we accepted Jesus into our lives!

I am especially stirred by the words of the bridge, and the importance of declaring them over ourselves;

‘I needed rescue, my sin was heavy. But chains break at the weight of Your glory’

‘I needed shelter, I was an orphan. Now You call me a citizen of Heaven!’

This song helps to get me excited for the future I have in God, and the future we have as a church as we get to know God on a more passionate and intimate level. That’s why I love using this song in worship!

Song Focus – I Believe (The Creed)

Chris

Ever since I first heard this song, I was struck by the great combination of robust theology and beautiful melody put to this ancient set of Christian beliefs.

Down through the centuries, the Apostles Creed has been declared by thousands of believers all over the world bringing unity to the Christian Church.

In this contemporary form, I believe the song writers have served the Church well. Not only have they brought the Apostles Creed to our attention again, they have given us a new vehicle to unite us in our worship where we can consider and declare our core beliefs together.

From the virgin birth to Christ’s return, we can be reminded of the wonder of our Christian heritage and journey of hope.

I’m looking forward to singing this song as part of our corporate worship in the coming months. I hope you are too!

Song Focus – Now Why This Fear

Pete

This is a remake of an old hymn from 1772 (“From Whence this fear and unbelief?”). I heard this song about 6 months ago, and since then I haven’t stopped listening to it! I love the way Verse 1 asks a series of questions, which are responded to wonderfully in the Chorus with “Jesus, all my trust is in Your blood. Jesus, You’ve rescued us through Your great love!”. Verse 2 speaks of the grace sheltering us from God’s wrath, before finishing off in Verse 3 literally singing truth over ourselves. Look forward to singing this with you all soon!

We hope you are getting as excited as we are to see the ways God is going to continue to move amongst us using these new songs! The Spotify playlist below should give you a taster of what is to come!
